Learning the guitar requires the development of skills and knowledge along with the retention of prior learning. With this in mind 4Front School of Guitar has developed a structured curriculum for the guitar which utilises a sequential lesson process. Skills in the physical ability to play the guitar are developed alongside an understanding of music. Songs and activities are provided for reinforcement.
4Front school of guitar has consulted with guitar experts and music teachers to provide the best learning sequence while utilising the best educational practises. The use of rubric based assessment, including Feedback and Feedforward, encourages each student to reach for their best. The five step lesson approach also enables students to move fluently into new skills and songs.
Finally the structured learning process provides the flexibility to incorporate children with learning needs and those with exceptional abilities. Children with learning needs will have the relevant skills reinforced while extra songs, skills and techniques are provided to challenge the more able.
A concert is arranged towards the end of each year. This event gives students an opportunity to show their skills. It also develops their confidence through their involvement as part of a big event. It is usually held in November so as not to compete with the many other events on in December.
4Front School of Guitar also provides a link with the Trinity College London through their Plectrum and Rockschool guitar material. Some students may choose to sit their grades in guitar through Trinity College London. This is available after the second year of lessons and is decided in consultation with the tutor.
